Jiufen
Jiufen, located about 1 hour and 20 minutes by bus from Taipei, is a place where you can soak up the old atmosphere of Taiwan. Jiufen was a city that flourished through gold mining in the 1920s and 1930s, but after the mine was abandoned, it declined into a quiet rural village. However, as the filming location of the film <Abjeongseong City>, which won the Grand Prix at the Venice International Film Festival in 1989, it again attracted media attention. Currently, it is revived as a tourism industry and is enjoying popularity as a tourist destination in the suburbs of Taipei.
The quaint buildings lined up along the winding slopes attract attention. The romantic atmosphere buried in every alley and the exotic scenery lit by red lanterns are enough to capture the hearts of Taiwanese and tourists. You can enjoy a unique atmosphere as if you have traveled back in time. There is no magnificent or spectacular sight, but it is a great place to take a leisurely walk through the labyrinth-like alleys and stairs to refresh your breath while traveling.
